MOTORCYCLE TRANSPORT

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Trust your bike to a company with extensive motorcycle shipping experience.

How will my motorcycle be shipped?

Motorcycles are palletized and strapped down with nylon straps. There are four straps to secure the motorcycle, two in front and two in the back. These pallets are called skids. These skids are design especially for motorcycle for safe shipping. The motorcycle is covered and transport in an enclosed auto transporter. Enclosed auto transporters have a lift gate for safe loading into the truck.

What if my motorcycle does not fit on the skid?

Most motorcycles do fit on the skid. However, if your motorcycle is longer than 8 feet or wider than 4 feet, you will have to provide your own skid, and accommodate the truck with a loading dock to load and unload.

What is the transit time for motorcycle shipping?

This depends on the state and location of the motorcycle to be picked up. Most transit time is one to three weeks.

What is required before I ship my motorcycle?

Make sure your motorcycle is within 96" long and 40" wide. You need to know the weight of your motorcycle; if you don't, then please click here. You also need to completely drain all fuel from the tank, unlock the steering, remove the keys, fold in the mirrors (if possible), and remove all items from the saddle bags and glove box. DO NOT send the keys or important documents with your motorcycle. We recommend you send them with an overnight courier. The driver will not pick up or deliver the keys and documents.

Can I ship spare parts or boxes with the motorcycle?

No. all spare parts, keys, and  paperwork need to be shipped separately. You can ship the motorcycle helmet as long as it’s securely fastened to the motorcycle. The windshields can stay on the motorcycle. You will need an inventory list of items attached to the motorcycle for the driver.

What do I do to prepare the motorcycle for shipping?

The gas needs to be drained as low as possible. Keep the motorcycle unlocked so that the driver can place onto the skid and then onto the truck

How do I pay for the shipping?

We accept Visa or master cards drawn on a U.S bank only. If shipping overseas we accept money wire transfers.

How will I be notified prior to the pick-up and delivery?

The driver will call twelve to twenty-four hours before the pick-up and delivery, but it in some cases he could pick up earlier or later the same day. The driver tries to give a window of four hours. The drivers will try to accommodate the time frame that they ask him, but sometimes they may run late due to traffic, weather, or other circumstances.

Can I have my motorcycle picked up and delivered to a residence?

Yes, as long as the truck driver can get in and out safely to the residence, however it is cheaper to have the motorcycle picked up and delivered to a commercial business. Our trucks generally only deliver in residential areas during business hours, however special arrangements can be made. Commercial pick-ups and deliveries of the motorcycle can be convenient because someone will be there all day to hand over and receive the motorcycle.

Can my motorcycle change trucks and drivers?

Yes, the motorcycle can or will change trucks and drivers. The motorcycle will stay on the same skid.

Can I have the truck driver handle the money for the purchase of the bike?

No. The truck driver does not accept responsibly for exchange of funds for the motorcycle. This is between you and the seller.

Is there a condition report noted on my motorcycle upon pick-up and delivery?

The driver will walk around the motorcycle upon loading and delivery. If any damage is present, this must be written on the condition report, and signed by the driver and receiving agent. If the damage is not noted on the condition report at the time of delivery, any claim will be denied.

What is the insurance coverage on my motorcycle?

Your coverage is up to $5000.00 only. The insurance coverage is for damage not replacement. The insurance is to cover damages that may be caused during transit. You need to check with your insurance company to see they cover third party transfers. However, you can purchase additional insurance.

What if my motorcycle is worth more than $5,000?

You need to follow up with additional coverage with your insurance company or you can purpose additional coverage with us.

How long is my transport quoted cost good for?

Our quotes are based on fuel costs and demand. The quote that is provided to you is good for 7 business days. However, Transporter Auto Services, reserves the right to adjust any and all quotes.

What do I do if the truck can’t get into my location for pick up of my vehicle?

The truck driver will get as close to your door as he can legally and safely. Many cities have restrictions on large trucks that prohibit them from driving into some residential areas. Transport truck are an average of 75 ft. long, weighs about 78,000 lbs., and are built low to the ground and needs lots of space to maneuver and turn around. If your home is restricted by narrow streets, low-hanging trees, speed bumps or tight turns, the driver may ask you to meet the truck at a different destination or we will arrange a convenient location, like a shopping center or major street crossing, to pick up or deliver your vehicle.
